What do the icons mean?

Icons appear next to a voter's name on the contact card.

  • Warning triangle — This voter is marked inactive on the state voter roll. They may have missed elections or have moved; Try and get them to register to vote.
  • 📦 Moving box — We think this person may have moved . Someone was recorded at this door who wasn't one of the listed residents.
  • 💲 Dollar sign — this voter has donated to a federal or state campaign recently. Say thank you!
  • 🎤 Microphone — this voter has spoken at town council meetings. The number indicates how many times.
  • P / R / K Candidate badge — this voter has a personal connection to one or more candidates. P = Paul, R = Ryan, K = Kevin. Combinations like 'P/K' mean multiple connections.

Using the sidebar

The sidebar on the left has four main sections:

  • Scenario — which race / slate of candidates you're canvassing for today.
  • By Route — pick a precinct and route number to load a pre-built walking route.
  • By Address / Name — look up a specific voter by street, last name, or first name. After matching, click 'Find route' to load the route containing that person.
  • Additional Filters — narrow down the route:
    • By voting history — show only voters who voted in specific recent elections.
    • By stated support — show only voters with specific support ratings from prior canvasses. Check 'Show List?' to flip to a sortable table view.
    • By party — show only certain party affiliations.
    • Include 'May have moved?' — by default these are shown; uncheck to hide them.

Basic canvassing workflow
  1. Pick your scenario (or leave it on the default for your role).
  2. Load a route by precinct + route number, or search by address or name.
  3. Walk to the first stop. The contact card at the top shows the voter's info.
  4. Fill out Knocking for who? , Left material? , and Were they there? .
  5. If they were there, record support rating and any concerns that came up.
  6. Click Save & Next to move on.
  7. When the whole route is done, use the Directions tab to walk back to your car.

Special buttons on the contact card
  • Different Person — use when the person at the door isn't on the voter roll (a new resident, roommate, family member). You'll be shown a list of registered voters at that address in case it's one of them. If not, you can add them as a new contact.
  • Add Info — add a note about this voter (things you know about them, personal connections, or update a support rating later).

Troubleshooting
  • I don't see a voter I just added. Make sure you're on the same route as where you added them. They'll appear at the same stop as the door you knocked on.
  • The progress bar shows 0. The counts only populate once you've started recording contacts. DTC members are pre-counted as supporters.
  • Something looks wrong or crashed. Tell Kevin what you were doing, and include any red error messages you saw.
